One hour and a half in the skin of a modern Cleopatra... I have to admit, I always had a fascination with the Middle East, with the culture, the men, the spices and....the dance...belly dancing. Just to see the women gyrating every part of the body is mesmerizing, Middle Eastern dance exults sensuality. So, I couldn't resist the temptation to learn how to perform those moves when I decided to take a couple of belly dancing classes. With each one being an hour and a half of pure delight. I've never felt so feminine, it is a very vibrant dance, very joyful, and even if you don't master the art of shaking your belly after one class, you definitely improve your hip moves, and learn a way of moving your arms which is absolutely exquisite. At Twangoo we are offering you one hour and a half of belly dancing, during a group class at Desert Mermaids studio in Central, for half its original price. Just the name, Desert Mermaids is already a promise of excitement in itself... Suzette, your teacher, is the woman behind this lovely dance studio. Born in Durban, in South Africa, she started dancing at the age of 5. She trained in ballet then modern dance before she found her passion in arabic dance, in which she is a certified instructor. She also studied Jazz, African and Salsa, which makes her dancing unique: a blend of tradition and innovation. She believes one can really express herself through dance and loves to share her abilities. For those who are not familiar with belly dancing, it is a sensual dance where you isolate and move every part of your body: hips, shoulders, chest... the focus being on the hips and pelvic area. It helps to get a better posture and flexibility, working on your abs and back muscles especially. You know those muscles which look so great in a backless top but that we often neglect to train :) And the cherry on the cake? Oriental music! It really sets the atmosphere, as soon as the first song starts to play you'll feel right away taken in an oasis where you'll be the Dancing Queen. Lola's secret: There is nothing better than a bit of an outfit to be in the right mood. For only 40HKD the outdoor market on Pottinger St sells charming oriental clinging scarves with bells and chiming coins you wrap around your hips to shake to the rhythm durning class...
